Over the past 30 years, there has been a flood of modern worships songs that have found their way into evangelical churches. Some of these worship songs are incredible and truly God-glorifying, while others, not so much. In this midst of this movement, it is my contention that we must not let go of the great hymns of the past. The depth and power of these hymns is stunning and our worship would suffer if we decided to cut ourselves off from using them in our worship music. Over the past few weeks, I went through our church hymnbook (The Hymnal for Worship and Celebration) and listed below are my absolute favorite Hymns from that Hymnal. Obviously, there are many more great hymns given that this is only a few personal favorites from one hymnbook. Here they are:
