Ten Scriptural Promises for the Believer

The Bible is filled with promises to the believer. These promises give hope and strength to every Christian as we navigate life’s peaks and valleys. Peter wrote, “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature” (2 Peter 1:3-4). Here is just a sampling of the “very great” promises that we find in Scripture.

  1. Eternal life

John 3:16  “16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 14:2-3, 6 2 “In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also…..I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

  1. God is with you

Hebrews 13:55Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deut. 31:6 6Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

  1. God loves you

Romans 8:38-3938For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” I John 4:10-1110In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”

  1. All things work together for good

Romans 8:28 28And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Psalm 37:4-5 4Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.”

  1. Fear Not!

Isaiah 41:1010fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Matthew 6:2525Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?”

  1. Answered Prayer

Jeremiah 33:33Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” John 15:7 7If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”

  1. Rest

Matthew 11:28-3028Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Psalm 46:10 10Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

  1. Forgiveness of sin

I John 1:99If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Psalm 103:10-12 10He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. 11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.”

  1. Strength and power

Isaiah 40:28-31 28Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. 29He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. 30Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; 31but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

  1. Endurance in the Faith

Philippians 1:6 6And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” Jude 24-25: 24 Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, 25 to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.
