We live in a changing world. When we turn on our TV’s, log onto the internet, pick up the newspaper, or turn on the radio, generally we learn of new things. I guess that’s why they call it the “news.” The stock market is always in a state of flux, the price of gas is always changing, and there is always political news to report. Fifty years ago, I don’t think anyone could have imagined all the change that technology would bring us over the last half century. There always seems to be some new innovation being introduced to the world, but soon that new innovation is replaced by something even better. At least that seems to be the predictable pattern new technology follows.
From an early age, we get used of this type of rapid change to the point where we barely notice it anymore. If things weren’t changing, that would be abnormal for us. But as much as we try to accommodate and adjust to our changing world, every person still needs a Rock to cling to. That Rock is Jesus Christ.
One of my favorite verses is Lamentations 3:22-23. “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” This is almost a foreign concept to us. God’s love never ceases – it never stops. Through the ministry of His Son Jesus, and the agency of the Holy Spirit, God’s love is a never-ending stream being showered upon His creation. If there was ever a sure thing in this world, it would be the love of God. If there was ever something unchanging, it would be the fact that God’s mercies never come to an end.
Every morning when you wake up, God’s mercy is being manifested all over the world in millions of different ways. It is impossible for us to know the full extent of God’s mercy this side of heaven, but we can take note of God’s mercy and love in our own lives. We can take the time to thank God for His astounding faithfulness to us, day by day. A follower of Christ never has to doubt the fact that God is loving, merciful, and faithful, at all times and in all situations. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)
One of the attributes of God is that He is “immutable.” That simply means that God doesn’t change. This is a wonderful comfort to believers because we never have to doubt whether God is going to take care of us. We do doubt, but that’s just because we lack faith. Like we read in Mark 9:24, “I believe; help my unbelief!” However, you can know that if you cooperate with the work of the Holy Spirit in your life, slowly but surely God will grow your faith.
If you are sick and tired of placing your faith in a changing world that never offers any hope, then it’s time you turned to Jesus. Jesus will be the Rock of your salvation. I can assure you that God’s love, mercy, and faithfulness will totally overwhelm you. What must you do to be saved? “Believe on the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.” (Acts 16:31) “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38) It doesn’t matter where you have been, what you have done, or how bad you think you are. God will accept you into His Kingdom, if only you would repent and believe in His Son Jesus Christ.
