Are You Paralyzed by Fear?

It is amazing how many people live their lives paralyzed by fear. There is no simple solution to this problem, but perhaps the best thing you could do is to go to God’s Word and find out what the Scriptures have to say about fear. Remarkably, there are almost 200 references in the bible that tell us to “fear not.” Check out these other verses pertaining to fear:

– Do you feel anxious when there is nothing to fear? – Psalm 53:5: “There they were, overwhelmed with dread, where there was nothing to dread.”

– Are you afraid of something suddenly happening to you? – Proverbs 3:25-26: “Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being snared.”

– Do you feel trapped or snared? Proverbs 29:25: “Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.”

– Do you have problems resting? – Isaiah 30:15: “This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: ‘In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.’”

– Do you lack peace? – Jeremiah 30:5: “This is what the Lord says: ‘Cries of fear are heard – terror, not peace.’”

– Do you cry out a lot? – Matthew 14:26: “When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. ‘It’s a ghost,’ they said, and cried out in fear.”

– Do you know that there is a fear of death that makes you subject to bondage? – Hebrews 2:14-15: “Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death – that is, the devil – and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.”

– Do you know that fear is often associated with shame? – Job 11:15: “Then you will lift up your face without shame; you will stand firm without fear.”

– Do you know that fear is a characteristic of “no faith”? – Mark 4:41: “They were terrified and asked each other, ‘Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!’”

– Do you understand that fear hinders your ability to love? – 1 John 4:18: “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”
