I am excited to announce the release of my book “Help! I Want to be a Loving Husband.” It is published by Shepherd Press and is part of the Life-Line mini-book series which looks at a host of issues from a Biblical perspective. 

Though it is short and sweet (only 64 pages), the book was a couple years in the making. I met Paul Tautges (editor of the series) at a pastors conference in 2019 and after that things happened pretty quickly. I pitched a couple ideas his way and he liked the idea of a book that would help husbands better know how to love their wives. 

I started working on the book in summer 2019, but that work stopped when I found myself in the midst of a pastoral ministry transition in late 2019 and early 2020. I found some time to finish it up during the pandemic and turned it in to the publisher around June of 2020. But it wasn’t until around May of 2021 that I started working with the personnel at Shepherd Press on editing and design and so on.   

I believe there is a great need for a book of this kind. There are plenty of Christian husbands who are reliable, hard-working, and would do anything to protect their wives. They also know that the most important command God gave husbands was, “love your wives” (Ephesians 5:25, Colossians 3:19). They just struggle to know “how” to love their wives. That’s where “Help! I Want to be a Loving Husband” comes into play. 

The book has several strengths to it. It is short, readable, practical, affordable and thoroughly biblical. I am well aware that men these days don’t read nearly as much as they used to. But seriously, any guy can read this book, and I am certain they will benefit from it. 

The book has four chapters:

1. Sacrificial Love
2. Sanctifying Love
3. Strengthen Love
4. Steadfast Love    

As you can see, I worked hard on my alliteration skills with the chapter titles 🙂 and they are all taken from the key text on marriage in the New Testament (Ephesians 5:25-33). 

For all you wives out there, don’t be shy about buying this book for your husbands. If you feel bad about it, you can buy another book in the series called “Help! I Want to Model Submission in my Marriage.” I am kidding, of course, but it is a good book that I read before I set to work writing my own.  

I am grateful to God for this opportunity, and it is my prayer that He uses this little book for His glory in the strengthening of many marriages. If there is one thing Satan wants to do, it is to weaken and destroy Christian marriages. Marriage must be cherished, guarded, and held in honor by all (Hebrews 13:4). 

Yes, marriage takes work – a lot of work! But it is an amazing gift of God and I believe this book will serve as a tool to help men better love their wives and so honor Christ.
