In the 21st century the news and world information plays a large role in our lives. Unlike any other time in history we can easily learn about what is going on across the world very quickly. If something big happens we hear about it in hours or even minutes. We are very plugged into what is happening around us.
But do you ever wonder if you are too plugged in? Or if the news source is trustworthy and nonpartisan? Or how to think of this news from a Christian perspective?
The main source of news that my family uses is World Watch. It is ten minutes of news every day that covers relevant events around the world from a Christian perspective. You are not pounded over the head with a political agenda or propaganda. Watching World Watch each day is a great way to understand what is occurring around the world without spending hours on news websites or channels. And the reporters will often tie the current event to a Biblical theme.

The first half of the episode is used for recent events, usually starting with the more serious stories. The second half is more educational, discussing fascinating topics like history, science, human behavior, and different careers. The last story shares something amusing or lighthearted.
My favorite part of the episode is at the very end of the episode when “the Big Bash” (news anchor Brian Basham) or a school or family says, “Whatever the news the purpose of the Lord will stand.” This is a great reminder that God is sovereign and uses even horrible world events for our good and his glory.
World Watch is great for families or for one person use. It is child-friendly and will warn beforehand if the topic being discussed might be inappropriate for younger viewers. But older viewers can also learn from the ten minute daily news. If you are trying to cut back on the time you spend each day watching the news but don’t want to become a news hermit this is a great option. If you feel like you can’t trust your news sources anymore this is also relevant.
