I started this blog exactly 10 years ago today. I was still in my first year of pastoral ministry and blogging was becoming popular so I thought, why not give it a try? Since then, there have been seasons where I have blogged quite frequently and other seasons where I have blogged rather infrequently. A few times I even contemplated shutting down the blog for good, but I never did.

When I first got started, I didn’t really have a clear picture in terms of target audience or what kinds of articles I wanted to write. So I just started to write things that emerged out of my own life and ministry. For years, the blog was called: “Standing for the Truth: Proclaiming the Truth of Jesus Christ.” The title had an apologetic and even polemical ring to it, but I never narrowed the focus of my blogging to apologetics. To be sure, I will always have a love and passion for apologetics, but I came to realize that my blog posts generally had to do with pastoral ministry, the family, and devotional writings. I also noticed how they were often anecdotal in nature. If you have followed this blog in the past, you will know that I like to tell stories about my family. I hope that at some point, my kids will dig into the archives of this blog and enjoy Daddy’s stories about them.

For the time being, I will continue to write broadly on a variety of different subjects, but my vision and hope for this blog is to focus more on pastoral ministry (hence the title and domain of this blog). One of my concerns as a pastor is that that the prevailing paradigm for ministry in the West is all wrong. It tends to be highly pragmatic and worldly and even self-serving. In a word, it is “unbiblical.” My hope is that I can be a small part of the movement that is working to recover ecclesiology from unhealthy, unbiblical ministry practices that can be harmful to both pastors and congregations and the Church in general.
